    Wii will not boot!

    Hi Guy's

I have joined just to get some answers regarding a problem I am now having with my UN-MODDED Wii, I am in the UK but this is a NTSC/U/C unit and is an earlier model I have owned from new.

This morning I received I new (non official) nun-chuck (from Amazon) a proceeded to test it (Mario Galaxy) all was well and I played it for a couple of minutes and turned the unit off, This evening I turned the Wii on the health and safety screen appeared I pressed the A button and as the screen faded out there was a slight pause before going completely black and black it stayed, I powered it down and back on again the same thing!

I have removed all cables and have left the unit for a while and tried again but still the same, does anybody have any ideas

Edit: Just a quick update it will allow me to go into Maintenance Mode if that helps and shows I am running Ver. 4.3U

You unplug the Wii from the wall and the back of the unit itself? You remove the non-official nun-chuck? Can you turn the Wii on with the wiimote?

Edit: moved to the bricked section of site, with a one-day auto-expiring redirect.

Hi nightstah and thanks for the response.

I have removed all cables and devices (inc mem cards) and have kept it simple by plugging back just the sensor bar, PSU & AV cables but again the same thing!

I can turn the Wii on with Wiimote (has fresh batteries) but not off, I can play all my downloaded games and disc based games (in Maintenance Mode) but coming back out via the "home" button to return to the main menu also causes the system to freeze (black screen)

I am running the AV through a HD converter (HD VIDEO LEADER) and have been for a couple of months without issue (could this be a problem?)

I am pretty stumped, as mentioned it is not modded in any way my set up is, 1 x Wii (LU) 2 x Official Wave Bird, 2 x Official Wiimote, 1 x Official nun-chuck, 1 x 3rd party nun-chuck, 2 x Official GC mem card, 1 x 2GB Sandisk SD card, all official cables with the exception of 1 x HDMI cable running through 1 x HDMI converter (as mentioned above)

It has been running fine like this for years only seeing very light use, but suddenly with the introduction of the 3rd party nun-chuck this happens, coincidence?

Or is it the fact that I have an NTSC/U/C running in the UK although this has never been an issue in all the years I have owned it could it be that a Wii update has detected some sort of region issue (I must stress that I have a large library of NTSC games)

If it is a case of a new Wii what happens to all my downloaded games, is there a way of transferring them or have a lost the lot?

    All the best.

    MM

Update: just got off the phone with Nintendo (UK) as this is a NTSC machine they will not touch it (surprise surprise) but the very jolly chap stated that if this was a UK machine then I could send it back for repair (cost not discussed) I asked what the situation would be if I was to purchase a new console and wanted to transfer the account/data to the new machine. I was informed that both machines would have to be sent to them so they could undertake this job (I assume at a cost, but again not discussed) he advised me to call or email Nintendo (America).

I have actually just this morning purchased a brand new NTSC black Wii (Mario holliday bundle pack) of eBay so I do have a second console on the way, so if I can not get this one working any suggestions on how to transfer my account/data from the old to new without having to ship it back the states!

As in games I have purchased and "downloaded" from Nintendo's Virtual Console, if the unit is scrap then I am of course interested in being able to transfer them to my new Wii so as not to have to purchase them again!

Load the wii into maintenance mode. I would install the homebrew channel and bootmii as boot2, make a nand backup, then follow these instructions- mailbox_brick_fix-det1re.zip

Or just load the wii into maintenance mode and format from the wii settings.

Hi thanks for the response, I have subsequently reciveved I response from Nintendo of America who advised me that although this was a NTSC console i.e. one of there's as it was outside the USA there was nothing they could do and I should call Nintendo in the UK

I have responded back so I will wait and see what they have to say before acting upon the advise given above, could I ask mauifrog that if I do hit a brick wall with official sources (pun intended) and as I am not very pc/mac savvy is there and idiots guide anywhere as what to do with the file once downloaded (which I have done on my mac).

    All the best folks!

Your wii is not broken, doing a system format from the wii settings will fix it but you lose all your savegames. Installing hbc/bootmii will let you backup all your savegames, wiiware, vc, ect, and if needed restore them to your wii or any wii you wish.

Chapter 1 of the Softmod Any Wii describes the methods for HBC and bootmii install, and nand backup. It is very simple.

In the app pack I linked before, there is a readme which will describe how to fix your issue without doing the system format. That method should allow you to keep all your savegames, etc. You will need to install cios236 for that method to work.

I don't think Nintendo is going to help you, and you can fix it yourself in under an hour.

Hi mauifrog thanks for that, I have downloaded the app pack and as this stinking mac does not have an SD card slot I will have to go out and buy a USB-SD card adaptor (it's never that easy) I have read the instruction file, but could I clarify once the app has been transfered to the SD card and then placed in the Wii and I have booted the system in Maintenance Mode do I then go to system memory and select the SD card and open the file or does it auto boot the file itself?

As for Nintendo your right I really do not think they are going to help hence why I was advised to seek the help of some true professionals

I do appreciate all the advise that has been given and understand if I come across as a little naive but I come from an age when to "mod" a console all you had to do was plug in a large 3.5 disc based device into the cartridge slot of the console.

OK, one thing at a time. Just start with getting the HBC and bootmii installed, and make your nand backup. Read and do chapter 1 of this guide http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...-wii-1616.html
I am not sure if letterbomb will work in maintenance mode, give it a try but if it does not work you may need to use a disc exploit.

Backing up your nand will backup everthing, all your wiiware/vc and savegames. If needed you can restore those to the wii or your new wii.
