you don't need dvd9 8.5g dl disc, you need normal dvd5 media -r, preferably verbatim.

    no dvd+r, no dvd+DL
you need just the reqular, quality dvd-r 4.7G blank disc to burn the B.L.I.N.D. iso
as you've been softmodded, try to transferBLIND.iso into a usb flashdrive. load in the BLIND via CFG/NeoGamma.

BTW, i've a solid one which is Banner brick. with a GC controller, tried thousand times attempting to get into RM, never get there. that one is as solid as rock !
    you're not alone.

You need to use magic spells found in the Harry Potter books. Nah, just get yourself some good quality DVD-R media like maui suggested and give it another go. Just for giggles try maintenance mode, press/hold + and - at health screen, & while holding them hit a.

I must ask, I've seen people mention maintenance mode before, what does it do? I tried entering it and all I noticed was that I couldn't access the message board or SD menu. What purpose does it serve?

Exactly right, it removes the message board. In some cases a corrupt message board could cause sysmenu not to display. It's rare, but it does happen, and its a simple enough trick to try. It has worked here on more than one occasion.

Verbatim DVD-R. Get them. Nothing else.

is my wii even able to read the discs? i never was able to run backup disks through the disc channel, and i tryed to make it work before...but wasnt able 2, used neogamm backup channel. so a verbatim dvd+r dl 8.5gb wont work as a verbatim dvd r 4.7gb?

The disc read error means that the wii loaded the disc, and then got an error like it could not read the disc well. I have no idea if the sony disc will work or not, if they worked via neogamma, they may work. Hard to say. Also ensure the disc verifies after burnng, even better verify it from another dvd drive than the one that burned it.
