Exclamation 4.3U, Banner Brick, Boot/IOS, No Prii, DO have backup.

A banner brick caused by a buggy WiiGSC WAD. Can go to the Health screen, no further. Thought I had Priiloader installed, but it either failed to install or it got overlooked, and it is not a model that can do BootMii via boot2. I have attempted to use SaveMiiFrii using a burned recovery disc (I'm pretty confident I installed some sort of backup-enabling system), but this is probably a model where burned discs cannot be read, and there don't appear to be any places to get the discs pressed. My only saving grace is that before all this havoc began, I DID use BootMii IOS to back up the NAND. However, at this stage it seems I don't have the capacity to reach BootMii, the HBC, WAD Manager, or any other means to take the offending WAD off. Am I correct in assuming that this is one that will have to have some hardware work done (NAND reflash, drivechip installed, et al) or do I still have nondestructive options? PS. If it comes down to opening the Wii up, I'm wondering if most prudent course of action would be to get a DriveKey (moderately priced with relatively low installation difficulty--I've had to transplant 1.8" HDD with the same types of ribbon cables, so I'm familiar with how they work). A serial check tells me my drive CAN do backups, but I did not have DARKCORP installed, so it currently can't do it. I also have a second Wii I could use to program a DriveKey to perform autobooting. Having a copy of SSBB, could I program a DriveKey to autoboot the retail disc and use that to perform a Smash Stack, enabling me to get into BootMii?

You can fix it using the swap disc method detailed in the 003 error fix, or the recovery menu boot disc guide, linked above in the STICKY. You will need to have a compatible dvd drive and a modchip installed. You do not need the modchip configured for autoboot, so you only need to install it in the bricked wii.

Install modchip- load swap disc- swap to ssbb-pal- run smash stack pal- load wiimod and uninstall the bad channel.

Since the DriveKey would enable the use of burned discs, and since I already possess the BootMii autoboot ISO, and since I do have a NAND backup, would booting a burned copy of the BootMii recovery disc be enough to enable me to send the backup on the SD back to the NAND? If so, I can do that to revert the Wii to a known good state (the NAND flash was taken very early on, only after installing HBC and a few of the common cIOS's like 236--no custom channels were included). I think I would prefer this route to using Smash Stack PAL to run the WAD Manager, because the first thing I would do once back in a good state would be to install Priiloader (which I had thought I had already put in), which is better installed before other custom stuff if possible. Everything else I would lose I could easily put back in later. All in all, not as bad as I thought it would be: $30 or so to fix the problem, plus it enables backup use.

You would only be able to run that bootmii disc if your system ios was patched, which it may or may not be (it should be, but you should also have priiloader). Restoring via bootmii ios is not recommended it is not required and is risky. If your system ios was patched I would suggest you burn the recovery disc B.L.I.N.D, which would load wiimod and allow you to uninstall the bad channel. You can install priiloader at this point with no increased risk above the normal risk involved with its installation (stable 0.7, not beta 0.8).

You could also load the hackmii installer and get yourself into the HBC, then install priiloader, then uninstall the bad channel. Either order works.

Nand restore with bootmii ios is not a very good idea in this situation.

I'll try your approach. I've ordered a DriveKey from Canada (and appropriate tools) which should arrive in a few days. I've also obtained the BLIND USA Autoboot ISO, which I'll burn once it arrives. I will inform you of the results. UPDATE: Ended up with the wrong thing: got the Programmer, not the actual thing. No DriveKeys readily available in NA. However, I found the actual Drive Key from a Hong Kong supplier. Will be about two weeks, though, before it gets here. But I can wait.

Sorry for the delay, but I only just not got a solderless modchip through Hong Kong post. It's a Wasp 3 Fusion, a Wiikey Fusion clone. It comes with the SD Reader and cable. I've installed it and have been working on how to get either the SD card or a burned disc to work so I can get to a tool. So far, I've formatted a standard 512MB SD card to WBFS and added the USA BLIND toolkit to it, inserted it into the slot, and tried to use Recovery Mode. It detects the card but it didn't work so far. I tried burning the disc to a DVD and trying that. Nothing yet. Is the device simply configured incorrectly and I need another Wii to go into it and set it right? I see what happened. I don't have patched system IOS's, so I will research alternate methods. Since I have a 4.3U but a drive that can read backups (and now a modchip installed), I'll try the Netflix method, then your Smash Stack PAL.

Try to burn or load this from sd.
    starfox-USA.zip
    Just to test the chip.

Since I'm Banner Bricked, I can't test from the System Menu. I got it as a means of recovery. Reading further, I realize that since I don't have patched system IOS's, I can't use BLIND, so I'll have to use something more roundabout like the Netflix trick. Trouble is that links aren't current, so I'll have to do some searching.

Located an ISO, altered it to make it self-booting, and burned it. The Wii didn't see it, probably because it's a +R. I'll look around for some -Rs and try again.

Burning it to a -R allowed the Wii to see it and boot it. Interstingly, it briefly flickered the pre-System Menu screens and has since gone black. I keep hearing the drive moving, though, but I've had a black screen for several minutes. Should that be a sign that this isn't going to work and to try another tactic? NM. I had the Wii upside down. I tried it again properly, and now I see the Netflix screen.
