I have a Completely Bricked Wii I think.

OK, let me make a list of all the information I think will make things easier on anyone that tries to help me with this.

First of all I don't know any of the Wii's history other than that the previous owner said they didn't mod it in any way or add anything that wasn't approved by Nintendo. If that is true or not, I don't know. I bought this wii for about $12 off of ebay just to see if I could fix it. Unfortunately my knowledge is limited (but growing) and I have not been able to get anything other than what doesn't work on it.

• Serial Number: LU:50027
• Initial startup health screen comes up with the flashing "press A"
• Pressing "A" brings up the "Corrupt system files" error message
• Trying the + - with and without pressing "A" brings up "Corrupt system files"
• Holding the reset button on power up does nothing
• No actual gamecube controller to attempt a method with it (waiting for one in the mail, should be here within a week)
• Opening the Wii shows no evidence of any invasive hard mods

Edit to list:

• Tried holding + and - then pressing A with + and - held down didn't work still
• Drive chipset is "GC2R-D2A"
• I have DVD+R already... but they say 16X on them. Can I just burn at a slower speed, or would it not work on these DVDs?

Anyone who can point me in the right direction on what I could do to fix this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. I am aware that some people have a method of being able to flash the wii, and I would appreciate it if that method is a potential fix to PM me with instructions/price or whatever so that I can get that done.

Also, I have a 2GB SD card that I can use for whatever might be necessary. If a mod chip is required for a fix, please point me in the right direction as to where I may be able to purchase one (preferably the cheapest that will get the job done effectively).

1- it is fixable
2- I may or may not be compatible with boot2 bootmii. Your SN is not listed as known. Possibly it works.
3- Most likely the dvd drive is compatible with a modchip. Since you have opened it up, verify what drive is in the wii and what your modchip options are.
4- When the gc controller comes, do savemiifrii and find out what system menu is installed.
5- Try loading maintenance mod again. Turn the wii on, when the health screen loads hold + and -, then press A while holding + and -.

If maintenance mode does load, run the wii through the softmod any wii guide, get priiloader installed. Then go to the system settings and do a system format.

If maintenance mode does not load, get a modchip installed and get the wii softmoded following the disc loading instructions here- http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...oot-disks.html
Have a look at the post regarding the use of smash stack via ssbb-pal, possibly the netflix disc if your wii is USA or 4.1 and below. Possibly a simple recovery disc but likely only to work if below 3.2 or the wii was modded with a patched system ios.
You may wish to burn a recovery disc an try loading it after savemiifrii, if you where lucky the wii would have dip patched system ios and it would load.

Also check the wii for boot2 bootmii installation, which would be nice. Remove all disc, sd, usb, gc stuff and turn on the wii. Look and the blue led drive light, 1 flash sucks because you don't have boot2 bootmii. Two flashes is awesome, indicating boot2 bootmii is installed.

There are many options depending on your current system menu. Post back with the details you find and I can give you a clearer path to follow. You'll need some good verbatim dvd5 r- disc, probably also some good verbatim dvd9 dl, + and - have both worked well for me. Your disc should be slow burn speed, 4-8x max if possible, burned at 4x max.


Nand programming requires a wii that is compatible with boot2 bootmii, which you may or may not have. With out boot2 bootmii compatibility a wii can not be nand programmed unless the nand keys are available, you do not appear to have the nand keys, so you could only reprogram if it was boot2 bootmii compatible. Typically it cost around $60ish, give or take. You should be able to fix this without nand programming.

Holding the + and - then pressing A with + and - held down made it go immediately to the "system files are corrupted" message.

According to several searches the drive chip my Wii should have is a "GC2R-D2A" Looking inside, I see.... Well I don't know exactly what I'm looking for lol but I see "VEP72109"(this is what looks like a yellow strip of paint with these letters cropped out of it) on the underside chip of the drive. The larger chip on the underside says, "GC2-D1" while the smaller one next to it says, "GC2R-D2A".

Also, I forgot to mention that I have a wireless Thrustmaster controller that plugs into the GC ports. Immage here ( http://gearmedia.ign.com/gear/image/...937010-000.jpg ) Any chance this might work instead of the GC controller, or is it just the GC controller that works for some reason?

According to another site I went to the following modchips are compatible with my Wii. I just don't know what ones would do what I need to unbrick my Wii.

Thank you for your help with this once again. I will be researching each one while I wait for a response on here until I find one that has the functionality I need.

I have used the wasabi dx, the install is simple. Amy 4th gen chip is a simple install. But any functional chip should work, so whatever you like. You probably want a chip with a clip or a 4th gen that connects to the ribbon cable. It really should not matter what chip you get as long as it works, the chips just lets the wii load the disc. The wode would be cool to have, if you like that and have the cash. The wasabi dx has worked well for me, but other chips have worked well for others also. As long as the chip is compatible with the wii, there is really no differance between them from a brick fix stand point. Now it should be said that the older setups, like wasabi zero provide faster read speeds, but this is not an issue when used just to fix a brick. Also the wasabi dx can be installed as a wasabi zero on compatible drives, so that is a bonus if you like that.

If I had the cash, today I would just buy a wode. But that is above and beyond what is needed for your case. Any working chip should serve your needs. As long as you can install it. I imagine you don't want to do any soldering, so probably a chip with a clip or a 4th gen that attaches to the ribbon cable like the dx.

It either works or not, there are no special features in the brick fix sense. It just needs to load a burned disc. Or an iso from usb if using a wode.

I've looked at a few places, and I think I found some decently priced chips. The chips that require wires to be soldered are cheaper (I understand why), and if I did that unfortunately I don't know what kind of solder I would need and if I should get a specialized soldering iron (or if it's just skills). Any ideas on that department? I understand that if the wires get too hot sometimes solder can come undone, and some solder holds better than others along with conductivity. I have done some soldering in my time, but these chips appear to be pretty small so it might take more skills to get them.

So if I was willing to do some solder work, I could even go for the WiiKey (version 1) and I'm not losing much functionality, if any, compared to if I went for the DriveKey or Wasabi DX? I ask this because if I wanted to get a game that is large like a 4GB game I don't want the chip to not be able to handle it and stop me. I'm currently looking over the specifications of the chips I can find.

And another thing I forgot to mention. The chips I found were links to foreign sites... Like for the main site for the chip gives links to other sites for different countries. If using a chip bought from one of those other sites causes a problem... then I'm severely cut short in options I have.

I would not solder my own chip. I don't know much about that. You can do it, a wiikey would probably work. I would just get the wasabi dx, but whatever your comfortable with. Newer chips just have added features like autoboot, update block, region free. All of those features can be patched into the iso before you burn it. It is normal for these things to come from other countries, I get all my stuff shippedin from canada. But those things may be harder to finds these days.

I got my gamecube controler, and I tried the d-pad trick. It did something different this time, but it only showed the version my wii is. it's a 3.3 (USA). When I put in a game (Zelda: Twilight Princess) the screen goes completely black. Is there something I am missing, or is a mod chip still seems to be the only way I can fix my wii?

Or is there a game I might be able to find and use to update my wii? That or something I can burn to a disk and use instead. (I'm currently looking into these methods)

You could try putting in a retail game with 4.1/4.2u disc update on it, like new super mario bros or Super Mario Galaxy 2. The would update the system menu to 4.1/4.2 which may or may not fix your issue. Other than that, you will need a mod chip.

Guess I'm off to either find one of those games, or a mod chip that isn't sold out. lol Thank you for your help, I'll leave another reply once I've done one or both of these and got my wii working, or if I need help still for whatever reason. My next reply hopefully will be the last and of success on this.

Alright, I received my Wasabi DX in the mail today, and I set the jumpers and installed it into my Wii. Now I just need to figure out how to get this to work. I'm looking for instructions, which I believed that I had found some but lost them somehow. If someone can point me in the right direction, or post them here, I would appreciate it.

I'm guessing that my mod chip isn't pre-configured to auto boot disks... as when I try multiple methods including turning on the wii while holding down my GC controller D-pad to get the the screen displaying my version number then inserting a disk (tried with several kinds) it doesn't do anything but spin the disk, and keep the version number on the screen, or something going blank entirely. Any idea of what I could do to fix this issue? Maybe I could find someone local, or who I can mail my chip to to get it configured.
