No, it flashes once, then makes the noise for trying to read a disc and then just usual noises for the system powering up.

Did you happen to use a prog called Any Region Changer, or something like that?

I assume prog is short for program, but I've never heard of Any Region Changer, so I'd assume that I didn't use it.

Im going to move this thread to the Bricked Section. We have some folks around here that are far more experienced than I dealing with bricks, so hopefully one of them will see this and have some more ideas for you.

USB Loader GX (or DX I don't remember which letter it is)

When I loaded the game it went to a black screen and wouldn't play. I changed the video setting to "System Default" (because I thought it might help) but it still went to the black screen.

Upon turning on my Wii directly after this it just went to the black screen.

Not to good. Hopfully it comes back to life. There were some older 1.6 beta versions of usbloader gx that would black screen on loading games and brick the wii. If you brought the wii softmoded, possibly it was outdated and that is your issue.
Check for boot2 bootmii- extract this to sd:\ and boot the wii
Check for priiloader - hold reset and power on the wii, keep holding reset
Look for a nand.bin or key.bin file on your sd card or pc
