to be clear i formatted a sd card to fat 32 (tried two of them). Then unpacked the zipped file to the sd card. i removed the files from the file they were zipped in and put them in the root folder of the sd card as follows

    folder: apps
    folder: bootmii
    folder: wad
    file: boot.dol
    file: boot.elf
    file: startup.elf

when I pop that into the we and turn it on it still goes to the same black screen as before. The only new thing is when I select Load/instal file the it come up with 3 options
    boot.dol,
    boot.elf,
    startup.elf

below that press a to install and press z to load file. Pressing a on any of the 3 files installs them successfully but just goes back to the same screen. Pressing load file just goes to a black screen that says loading on the bottom and does nothing.

    Thanks again for your help

The 3 files need to be in a folder named bootmii.

EDIT - Sorry I see how you have the files now.

When you turn on your wii without the sd card in, how many times does the blue light in your disc drive flash?

    Hi thanks for writing,

There is a folder in the sd drive root dir named bootmii with the following files but still just the same black load screen shows up.
    armboot.bin
    bootmii (config file)
    ppcboot.elf

I'll try to put the other files in a bootmii folder and see what happens.

No don't do that. Leave them how they are. I missed your other post with how you had them setup.

But take out the sd card and power on the wii. how many times the drive flash?

in the settings menu in the preloader it is set to. autoboot = disabled. returnto = preloader. the rest are set to off or disabled. I tried to change auto boot to each of the other settings with the sd card in but with no luck.

    thanks

ok so at the seconds step in the process and everything is good until we need to load the
    Install IOS60-64-v6174 with all patches
we cannot get it to read the wad file from the SD card, a USB and we have no wifi so thats out
doesn't even try to find it on the SD card
USB says error! could not open file -1
    any ideas?

is it because the original operating system was 3.4U?
