Unhappy Fully bricked wii? Need some help.

So I pulled my Wii which I had previously installed the Homebrew channel on out of my closet after maybe a year or so of not using it. As soon as it boots up I get the "System files corrupted error".

No idea why. Alright. My Wiimote boots up the system, so it's not the bluetooth module.

So here's what I have - I do have the SD card that I was originally using, which has some WADS as well as a bootmii folder with armboot.bin, bootmii.ini, and ppcboot.elf... not sure if that can help me at all. I do not have bootmii installed as boot2, unfortunately.

I have a Gamecube controller that I can use to boot into the recovery page - I can get it too boot, and I have 3.4(USA) in the lower right hand corner.

I've tried to boot using Universal Unbrick (v2? not sure which is latest) and a WAD-MANAGER ISO - I'm using DVD+R media, would that work? because it's not working - it just stays on the screen with 3.4(USA) in the lower right. I honestly have no idea if I have the trucha bug installed, but I know I used the Twilight Princess hack to originally get Homebrew on the Wii in the first place, so I'm not sure if that means anything.

So am I doing something wrong here, or am I completely boned at this point? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

edit: If I put the Twilight Princess disk in when I'm in recovery mode the screen goes black and nothing happens, not sure if that's usable information. Also I was using USB Loader previously - but don't have the HD I used any more, not sure if I'm missing osme critical files that were on that? doubt it.

Do you have priiloader installed? Hold reset while powering on your Wii.

And btw, bootmii as boot2 is good. You will recover from this brick even if you do not have priiloader.

EDIT - Sorry I misread your post, you said you don't have bootmii as boot2?

Since savemiifree is working you can get a disc with a higher update than 3.4. Has to be an original disc.

Yeah, no priiloader installed apparently. I do not have bootmii as boot 2.

Savemiifree is working, but shouldn't it load any game I put in it? It's not loading anything, I just get a black screen. I'll have to find a game that requires above 3.4 and see how that goes... Thanks!

Unless you had cioscorp/darkcorp installed or a modchip installed, it will not load any DVD-r or DVD+r.

Get a original game with a update like NSMB has 4.1. It will install the update when you load it with savemiifree and you should be unbrick, since it will replace the corrupted system menu.

Beautiful! Thank you - I'm off to the RedBox to pick up NSMB now!

Hmmm, so this is weird. I booted up with savemiifree with the NSMB disk, and the screen went black. I gave it a good 10 minutes and just powered down. I tried booting into savemiifree again and now in the lower right hand corner I see 4.1(USA) so it apparently upgraded - but when I try to boot normally I get a black screen (no corrupted error message).

I'm guessing this means I have some sort of hardware failure? Bluetooth works, and it apparently reads disks... so maybe the Wifi module? How annoying!

any other advice anyone? Could it be the wifi module? Is there a way to test it?

I notice you said you shut down the Wii, after waiting for it to do the update.

Maybe it did not finish. If it only partly updated it would say 4.1.

Hmm maybe - though I did wait a considerable amount of time. I ordered a tri-wing screwdriver and I'm going to make sure the wifi module is seated properly, I'm starting to lean towards that being the issue - I just wish there was a way to know for sure!

Could be, but no way to test without being able to boot the Wii.

Make sure the blutooth module is seated good too while your in there.
