The joys of finals week, and the real joy of that week being over.

So today was my final legitimate day of class. For those of you who don't know I'm a returning college student this semester. Previously I was a working professional (of course not many people consider musicians professionals, but I do), hurt my back pretty good in '09 which prevented me from doing what I did, and have decided to return to continue on in my education.

Wrapping up this semester has been a tedious task, and as it always seems to happen I was swamped in these last couple weeks with reports and projects and presentations ad-nauseam. If I recall correctly, I've written (well, typed) around the area of 20 pages in reports, transcribed two vocal charts and arranged them for a saxophone presentation (on an instrument I haven't played in nearly two years), read a novel, made a formal presentation of that novel, and delineated a comparison of two separate philosophical theories of emotion for a very stressful report (which counted for 30% of the class grade): all in the last two weeks.

Was it worth it? Well sure, I'm back in college doing these things because I want to be (for the first time in my life, really). But it doesn't mean I don't love it when it's over!

Anyways, just needed to type that out somewhere. Glad to be done.

Always a man of many talents, Ithian --- I recall our brief convo about you returning. Hopefully you're not "over the hill" for it, sounds like you're managing (then again, intelligence and tenacity can overcome a lot and you've got that in spades

From an over the hill college grad of 41 (who has no musical talent whatsoever; my uncle can hear a tune once and play it. That KILLS me

Thanks guys, and for the kind words NS. I'm still a ways off from "over-the-hill" but definitely starting to feel the sands of time creeping around. It's a tough thing changing careers when I was so devoted to what I did before. But I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason, and that they always work out for the best. Well, most of the time.

Well, as usual, finishing school is an amazing feeling, but what you walk away with is way better.

My sister is in University taking musical performance, so I know secondhand the workload required to get by these courses. Me, I'm more of a science guy... I find it takes me a hell of a long time to write an essay/report, but presentations I can pull off pretty well. I actually have a very artistic side, as well as a musical side that I decided not to develop, which is a decision I regret, but when it comes to grammar, history, art studies... I effin suck. Im getting into Nueroscience at a local university this coming september, with the intention of becoming a doctor in that field, so we'll see how that goes.

Congrats Ithian on getting by your last day of college, Im hoping I can do the same lol

Ithian, you must be a machine... to get through that lot in a fortnight and still find time to contribute to this site in a massive way.

I take my hat off to you. I wish you all the best and that you recieve everything you've obviously worked so hard towards.

Thank you both for commenting. School can be tough at times but I think like everybody else I just want to come out with more opportunities than I have now. @streetsurfer158 that's crazy man, that's exactly the direction I'm headed now - neuroscience. No idea if it'll be a good fit for me, but you never know until you go for it. I wish you the best in your endeavors towards your education.
