WiiNewz had obtained exclusive and very interesting details on the upcoming Argon2 modchip.

ARGON2 is the result of many months of development. We call it a 4th generation modchip because it introduces many important new features for the scene:

1- ARGON2 is not only a MODCHIP, is a complete SOFTWARE SUITE that introduces a new concept for distribution of FREE software on the NINTENDO WII. The CORE of the project is, in fact, not the HARDWARE but the SOFTWARE. We have developed a new CHANNEL for the NINTENDO WII called “ARGONCHANNEL." Through this channel we will distribute FREE HOMEBREW SOFTWARE and, in the future, more and more things.

2- ARGON2 with ARGONCHANNEL is the first Modchip for WII that is “internet” updatable. ARGONCHANNEL has a functionality to UPDATE ARGON2 directly from the menu.

3- The website will have plenty of infos and tools that will allow homebrew developers to build their application and distribute it for free to all ARGON2 users. An updated feed of new software will be available ONLINE on the website and INSIDE the ARGONCHANNEL WII.

4- As for the new HARDWARE, ARGON2 has two important aspects:

a. Is complete SOLDERLESS, with an ORIGINAL wii-clip on board.

b. A 32 pin connector on WII LENS DATA BUS that will allow the modchip to access the DATA CHANNEL of the Wii. Right now this is used ONLY to protect the proprietary software for ARGON2 (in fact, if you try to insert the ARGONCHANNEL INSTALLATION ISO to a wii without ARGON2 it simply does not work). In the future we plan to add some “special” things, like an ISO emulator that will allow you to put apps on the 16Mbit on board flash. Lastly, and even more interesting, is the ability to dor REAL TIME PATCHING when is necessary. A firmware for D3 (D2NOTHING) is under development.

5- An important consideration of the ARGON2 kit is LEGAL USE. Many judges around world are attempting to stopp MODCHIP sales because the PRINCIPAL use of modchips is PIRACY. With ARGON2, we have chosen a different approach. Included in the first release there are over 10 applications for ARGONCHANNEL that are FREE. This means that for about 40 EUR a user can buy a KIT that allows access to MANY FREE HOMBREW APPLICATIONS. This is LESS than the cost of 1 WII GAME. We think this will be a good “argument” to avoid possible legal problems.

"The 1st point sounds fantastic and a real commercial push toward the homebrew scene, I will be very interested to see what software the Wii Argon Channel shall bring. Original software developed by them has the potential to make it the best on the market."

so from what ive gathered, and *we will probably see by the Big 3*

you basicly get a Chip that has a channel, that by passes problems, with installing or getting homebrew channel *more or less in all cases for chip users, not DLing Twilight princess*

internet updates, are good, but ive read many people say, 3.4 doesnt block Chip firmware updates, which means as of now, its another useless but neat feature

i see the term free plastered all of the "homebrew apps" free this and free that, yet no homebrew app does, or will cost money, if 1 person bought it, it would be leaked, and no app out there deserves, to be bought *if you say gamma, counter point why buy a app, when the chip is only a little more =P* i think it will be intresting, but till nothing from the Argon channel will be ground breaking, and i doubt there ever will be.

Solderless on board is a old news thing, shouldnt be a big astounding feature, since Wasabi Zero has it too, and with the fact all new drives *most chip users will be* wont be able to use this feature =P

as for 5, unless the chip doesnt let you play backups, its just as illegal as the others, if it doesnt, its still illegal =P silly people
youre violating your Terms of service, by installing it, and you are editing the software/hardware to do what you want, which is just as illegal, because even if it doesnt let u play backups, those people *if anyone buys* will just use Gamma, and it will be seen as a gateway, being just as illegal as the others

overall the channel is a nice idea, i see in a month or 2

Wasabi Channel *it has enough memory to pull this off*
D2Pro channel
and Wiikey channel =P

those could all be .wad's, or part of the update, im sure they will find a way, if they think this feature is requested enough, or popular enough

i think the whole internet updateable is just a gimmick. installing an ios is technically internet updating. so to me what they are saying is heres a d2pro with HBC and maybe well update the ios' through the wifi. but who knows. certainly not me. im just guessing.

updating IOS's are tech Disc =P, since their independant of firmware, and can only be found on discs

oh I thought when you installed an ios it connected to the net for other files. thats why I considered it an internet update. "internet update" is just so vague it makes you wonder what it means. I guess we just wait and see. but I have a d2pro9 on my d2e so I wont need a chip, hopefully, ever again.

while it seems cool, I am rather concerned if things are going to go the way of argon/infectus chips in past. It will also be interesting to see what other teams decide to do.

they allready killed themself, anyone whom read the hackmii fight with them, wouldnt recommend buying from them, or buy one themself... since the team showed they clearly dont have a GREAT grasp on what their doing -,_-, it will greatly hurt sales
