Drivekey VS Solderless D2Pro 9
I'm interested in modding my sons Wii, which is an RVL001 (Australia), with serial number LAH100748xx, Firmware 3.1E (PAL).
I have just done at least 20 hours research and wanted the advice of members who are familiar with the pro's and con's of using these chips.
I am considering the solderless route because I successfully trashed my sons original XBox when I tried to mod it.
It was not ignorance, nor inexperience doing fiddly work, as I have been an electronics engineer (advanced diploma level, not degree) for over 25 years, but the best part of aging is the inability to see like I once did, and a not so steady hand. I can't believe I used to solder on hearing aids under a microscope, whereas now, anything smaller than a pin head is no longer an easy project for me.
I am familiar with the speed reduction (drive speed) using the drivekey, but at this stage, it wouldn't affect us as we have no intentions of playing movies on it. I have also seen sellers complaining about the clip system, but haven't weighed up if this may be resentment on the loss of labour charges (I'm familiar with the vibration concept and the possibility of poor pin contact)
Since the Wii is an early model, I know there are no issues with cut pins, of goo over the processor.
Sorry if this has been covered in previous posts, I have read so much, but much of it doesn't directly relate to my decision making process, or choices.
Thanks!
