The image (obviously) needs to be in PNG format and its dimensions must be 128x48. It must also have 32-bit color data. It can also be transparent. If you want to change it just open my example in MSPaint and when you're done just save it. It will still have 32-bit color data.
The XML file can be edited by right-clicking it and opening it with Notepad. In my example XML I got from the Tetris game, do not edit the first 2 lines. You can change anything else within the tags. For the long desription you can hit enter and skip lines. Just make sure you have </long_description> at the end.
When you're done put these files along with your ELF renamed at boot.elf in a folder within apps. The folder can be any name. If you set everything up right it should appear in the Homebrew Channel apps list. I'm pretty sure this will work with any ELF as long as you follow instructions. I installed the WAD installer ELF this way and it works perfectly under the HC. Enjoy!

What you have written has totally gone over my head.
The more I read about homebrew the more confused I'm getting.
1) Does the homebrew channel / TW hack needed for homebrew stuff if you have a medded wii?
2) If you use the HBC iso to install Homebrew Channel do you need the TW hack foranything else after HBC is installed?
3) what all this about ELF and boot.elf, I can't get my head round this, totally confused?
4) Whats the difference between WiiWare and VC?
Please explain in laymans terms, to quote a line from the movie Galaxy Quest - "Speak to him as if you were talking to a child"
All help is appreciated. Thanks.
