As of May 1st in the GVR region....Non-moddable wii's have been purchased in the retail stores.
The dvd drive controller just has " GC2-D2C " with no 2nd line of alpha-numerics.
(now having said this...not all with the above are unmoddable....so....seems 20% yes, 80% no)
I have Had the Pleasure to work on 8 of these in the last 2 days.
No currently coded modchips will work on these drives.
currently to make the wii work with backups... is to change just the dvd drive pcb.
The problem is pertaining to the drive board itself

I was over excited.....status is wii's unmoddable
atm ..only way is to switch the dvd drive board

if you look at the thumbnail below.....apparently this is the way to identify the new non-moddable D2C2 Wii's
I have checked all 38 unmoddable drive boards I have.... and it is 100% of what the identifiers are.
UPDATE...June 2/08... D2Pro9 v2 (D2c2 compliant) are out and working with all versions of Wii's
