Just Wanna Be Famous

ok so i picked up a game cube for pretty cheap. (long story) Anyway, the reset button and open button are permantly jammed down which causes the door to be open. i think to myself "no problem i'll just throw a book on there and fix it when i get the tool to open it" however after trying this it appears that the gamecube wont read the disc. Does this mean the eye is shot? or is it the loading mechanism itself. What do you guys think?
