As of May 1st in the GVR region....Non-moddable wii's have been purchased in the retail stores.
The dvd drive controller just has " GC2-D2C " with no 2nd line of alpha-numerics.
(now having said this...not all with the above are unmoddable....so....seems 30% yes, 70% no)
I have Had the Pleasure to work on 8 of these in the last 2 days.
No currently coded modchips will work on these drives.
currently to make the wii work with backups... is to change just the dvd drive pcb.
The problem is pertaining to the drive board itself
Will keep this thread updated....
I have started a new thread in Wii News for input..@
"SNES emulator SNES9X has been successfully ported to the Wii, allowing the core of original SNES fans, rapidly approaching middle-age as they are, to relive their gaming youths.
Information on the homebrew app is sketchy at the moment, but we do know that it features classic controller support and comes bundled with a whole swathe of other emulators for the Wii including: Genesis / Sega CD Emu, Master System / Game Gear Emu, PC Engine Emu, Rin Gameboy Channel, Emu Loader and Wii Paint"
This fixes the issue with original SSBB discs not working and it should also no longer be possible to render the chip inoperable by using patched config discs. A new config option to block system updates from DVD is also supported. The 1.9s config discs will be released by the end of this week.
Looks like we are getting closer to getting homebrew apps/games on the Wii.
Team Twiizers new hack enables custom channel icons that load hacked apps just like that. Getting from point A to point B still isn't a cakewalk yet, though; you still have to load the Zelda / Twilight hack and use it to reboot your Wii to get that app into the channel space.
